Learn moreHi I am Farres Amrhar! I have a passion for all things tech.
I’m currently a senior at Catawba College, set to graduate in May 2026. I’m majoring in Information Systems and Technology, with a focus on data analytics and hardware. I’m passionate about using tech to make a real impact in the world, and I’m always open to new opportunities to do just that.
I have experience coding in Java, Python, SQL, and HTML (which I used to make this very website!). I’ve also worked on e-commerce projects, game development, and led team projects giving me valuable, real-world experience that goes beyond the classroom.
Before diving into code and systems analysis, I was working the deli counter, slicing meats, making subs, and managing shifts. These were opportunities that taught me critical lessons in leadership, resilience, communication, and problem-solving.One of my first jobs was as a Deli Associate at Giant Food. It was hands-on, fast-paced, and full of daily challenges especially during busy weekends due to everyone coming down to get some deli meat for their weekend on the beach.
I learned how to manage time, stay organized under pressure, and keep a calm, friendly attitude no matter how long the line was. More importantly, I learned how much of a difference it makes to simply listen and respond to people’s needs. That sense of responsibility carried over when I joined Jersey Mike’s Subs, first as a crew member in Delaware and later as a Manager/Shift Lead in North Carolina. At Jersey Mike’s, I wasn’t only making sandwiches, I was leading a team, training new employees, handling inventory, and making sure the store operated smoothly.
Managing a team taught me how to delegate effectively, communicate clearly, and handle unexpected problems on the fly. These early experiences grounded me in the importance of consistency, accountability, and a team-first mindset, skills that transfer to any professional setting, including tech. While working, I was also pursuing my degree in Information Systems at Catawba College, and exploring my passion for technology. I got involved in the Math and Tech Club, where I collaborated with other students on projects and challenges and helped work on tech school related events.
My interest in SQL, Python, and Java grew, and I began to better understand how data and code shape the systems we use every day. If you take a look at my projects page, you will see some of the amazing projects I have worked on using Java and Python! One of the most exciting parts of my tech journey has been contributing to Team Synergy, Appalachian State’s Solar Vehicle Team. As a collaborator, I worked alongside engineers and developers to solve real-world problems in the pursuit of clean energy innovation while in a competitive work environment. It was the kind of hands-on, purpose-driven work that reminded me why I got into tech in the first place.
Not only that but Team Synergy is as real work as it gets with a deadline and people collaborating with different degrees and backgrounds, this had given me experience that sets me ahead.
